JuliaJulia Karlstad, M.Ed., CSCS I’m Julia Karlstad and I am the President and Founder of JKFITNESS, LLC. I have worked in the fitness industry and specifically the medical wellness community for several years. I am extremely passionate about helping people change their lives through fitness. Previous to owning my own business, I personally developed and directed an exercise physiology program that consisted of two bariatric hospitals and three medically supervised weight loss clinics. I have a Master’s of Education in Exercise Science as well as a Bachelor of Science in Basic Sciences from the United States Air Force Academy. I recently authored a book that is specifically about exercise as it relates to weight loss, Rx Fitness for Weight Loss: The Medically Sound Solution to Get Fit and Save Your Life. I hold two nationally recognized fitness certifications and constantly pursue venues to further my formal education. I’m CPR/AED certified and I’m an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the Obesity Action Coalition.

GilbertGilbert Hernandez, MBA I’m Gilbert Hernandez and I joined JKFITNESS in July of 2009.  As a Health and Fitness Professional, I offer a variety of different services, such as individual and group personal training, metabolic testing, and prescribing individualized exercise programs. I have been involved in the health and wellness industry for the past 12 years. I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas in San Antonio and hold an MBA in Health Care Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. My previous experience includes managing and working as an Exercise Physiologist for an Outpatient Therapy and Wellness Clinic, working in a sports training facility performing 3-dimensional biomechanical analysis for athletes and acting as an adjunct instructor for the Kinesiology department at Northwest Vista College. Most recently, I managed two multidisciplinary medical and surgical weight loss facilities.

JoeyKitty Henricksen, B.S., ACSM-CPT I am Kitty Henricksen and I recently joined JKFITNESS. I bring a wealth of fitness experience and am passionate about helping people change their lives and improve their fitness and overall well being! I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University. I am a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. Previous to working for JKFITNESS I served as an Exercise Physiologist at Toyota Motor Manufacturing. I conducted several health assessments and coached/mentored employees to improve their health status through different wellness programs. I consider myself an expert in endurance training as I’ve personally competed in numerous marathons, triathlons, and duathlons. I ran track and competed on the cross country team while I was a student at Texas A&M. While I was there, I was awarded the GTE/Verizon Scholar athlete award. I’ve used my personal experience along with my educational background to be a prominent endurance coach for several athletes!

Jerry Showers – Health & Fitness Professional I’m Jerry Showers and I am a Health and Fitness Professional. I am very passionate about personal training, and helping people achieve the results they deservefor a healthier and happier life. I believe that with individual determination combined with my direction and expertise my clients can reach their fitness goals! I have been personal training for three-years and have helped a countless number of individuals in reaching and surpassing their goals via proper fitness and nutrition. I hold a broad base of knowledge in nutrition and pride myself in program design to fit an individual’s needs. I am a certified personal trainer through the Athletic Certification Training Commission, and hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Management through the University of Texas at San Antonio. I look forward in assisting you in your journey for a more healthier lifestyle!

Aaron Nelson – B.S., ACSM-CPT, USAC Coach I’m Aaron and I am the newest addition to JKFITNESS. I have been in the fitness industry for ten years. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at Angelo State University and currently I am enrolled in the Master’s of Kinesiology program at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.

Prior to joining JKFITNESS I was a trainer at Spectrum Health Clubs for four years. I am passionate about cycling and consider myself an expert in the sport! I also specialize in power training and basic periodization training. I have been actively racing for about 6 years and through this experience I’ve learned a tremendous amount with regards to what it takes to bring your performance to the next level! I began racing mountain bikes, but before long I became hooked on road racing. Currently I race competitively as a category 3 racer throughout the state of Texas. As a cyclist, fitness professional, and coach I am able to train clients (athletes or the general population) to their highest potential.

Blaine Rucker, B.S., ACSM-HFS I’m Blaine Rucker and I joined JKFITNESS in
October 2011. As a Health and Fitness Professional I am extremely passionate about the power of group fitness. With many years of experience, I take pride in helping others find effective and sustainable alternative approaches to meet their fitness goals. I enjoy training clients individually, but love the challenge of training multiple clients at once.  The passion I bring to each session transfers to my clients and class participants resulting in an exciting and rewarding experience each and
every time! On a personal level, I enjoy training for endurance sports and events such as marathons and triathlons. Before joining JKFITNESS, I worked as a fitness specialist in the Fitness and Recreation department at USAA in San Antonio, TX. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences in 2010 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where I managed the Fitness and Wellness department.

Terri Borrer – Administrative Assistant Terri Borrer recently joined JKFITNESS in October 2011. Terri has many years of experience in bookkeeping and administrative duties and thrives in her organizational skills and attention to detail in every task. Prior to joining JKFITNESS, Terri held several different positions to include an executive administrative assistant, office manager and several bookkeeping positions for prominent companies. Terri handles multiple roles at JKFITNESS as she’s our front line in handling day to day calls, book keeping, daily administrative tasks, and assists the President of JKFITNESS in multiple projects Terri has a passion for fitness and wants to ensure every client at JKFITNESS has a positive and healthy experience with each workout.
