What’s the Deal with Apple Cider Vinegar?

Contributed by: Michael Devon, NASM-CPT

Apple cider vinegar has many uses but did you know it can used as part of a healthy diet? You’d want to chose apple cider vinegar with “the mother” which is the slimy substance seen at the bottom of the bottle. The mother is a good bacteria that grows inside the liquid during the fermentation process. In order to reap the benefits of apple cider vinegar you must take it orally and the best way to do so is to mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 cup of water and drink everyday. If drinking it seems like too much you could also sprinkle a tablespoon of vinegar over a salad or as part of a homemade salad dressing.

So what will Apple cider vinegar do for you? Research says that it can help type-2 diabetics improve insulin sensitivity, reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol, aid with weight loss by helping suppress appetite, and is a natural facial toner for acne treatment (used topically). Apple cider vinegar can also reduce symptoms of heart burn and acid reflux, regulate your bodies pH levels, reduce inflammation in the body, and help clear a stuffy nose. What are you waiting for? Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in your water today and drink to your health!
