Ginger is a spice that has gained popularity over the years for its many health benefits. It has been used in traditional and alternative medicine for years. Ginger is a root and can be used in many forms including fresh, ground, dried, and even oils and juices. Below are some of the many different health benefits of ginger.
- Nausea – Ginger has been found to be effective for nausea especially that which occurs from morning sickness.
- Anti-inflammatory – Ginger has shown to be effective as an anti-inflammatory for those suffering from muscle soreness after a workout and those with osteoarthritis.
- Chronic Indigestion – Chronic indigestion, dyspepsia, is pain and discomfort in the upper portion of the stomach. This indigestion may stem from slow emptying of the stomach and ginger has been found effective to speed up the emptying process.
- Brain Function – The benefit of ginger to brain function is related to its anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation has been linked to speeding up the aging process. This quickened aging process has been shown as a factor in Alzheimer’s disease. Ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties can help protect the age – related decline in brain function.
There are numerous health benefits of ginger and it can also be used in a variety of ways. Try adding ground ginger to your next meal or peel and slice fresh ginger and add it to water or green tea. No matter how you choose to use ginger, it can have a positive impact on your health with a unique flavor that is sure to satisfy.
