Portion Control

Contributed by: Michael Devon, NASM-CPT

When it comes to food, self discipline can be a struggle. It’s especially hard to watch what you eat when restaurants serve meals that are oversized for what most of us should consume.

Here are 3 simple steps you can take to turn the odds in your favor and keep your healthy nutritional goals on track:

1) Eat half- when you’re served a large plate of food make the decision to not eat the whole plate and take the other half home for another meal.

2) Eat slowly- put your fork down and take a breath, enjoy the food in front of you along with the company you may be sharing it with.

3) Share- if you’re out with a friend share an appetizer or an entree. It’s cost effective, has half the calories, and you still get a taste of everything.

Moderation is not easy but it doesn’t have to be difficult. If you consistently follow the steps above, controlling your weight will become nothing more than a daily habit.
